December 2023

Christmas at the Pop In Place

As we head towards Christmas, now more than perhaps ever, the words Peace on Earth echo a very urgent message.
It is hard to arrange celebrations while so many suffer :  in wars where the innocent are killed, when people can’t feed their families and when many more people are now forced to sleep on the street.
We have to try though; we have to bring joy to those around us, do our bit to make people feel better, so we will have our Community Christmas  Party on Friday 8th December 2pm invites should now be out.
Our thanks to Jagtar of Nisa for his help with the funding of this and on Friday 22nd December we will have Carols and Mince Pies 10am -noon at the final café of this year.

Pop In Place pay tribute to Rev Alan Clarredge
Earlier this year Alan made another mercy mission to South Africa to install mains water, in the orphanages and hospitals. While he was there he helped out with various items of aid that were needed. He kindly attended the café last Friday to update us. He also told us that now in his 80,s it seemed like a good time to get someone to run this incredible project from South Africa, and he introduced us to Able who is now being employed by the River of Living Water in situ.
We presented Alan with a photo of some of the events that we have organised to help the project and a quote “Not all Super Heroes wear capes”
The work that Alan has done, and will continue to manage now from the UK, has saved literally countless people’s lives and he really is so special to so many for all he has worked so tirelessly to achieve.

Pop In Place Movement to Music Classes

The classes will take a holistic approach to wellbeing.  They are primarily designed to promote physical health by helping people of all ages and abilities stay or get more active, improve overall fitness, muscle strength and joint flexibility using a combination of chair based exercises and dance/gentle aerobics based ones.  Over time I will be creating some simple routines for some of the exercises as this can help with cognitive functioning.  All the exercises will be to music to promote mental health and well-being and where possible, movements can be adapted, so that people with movement limitations can still join in. There is also no pressure on anyone to do all the exercises and if anyone wants to sit out any of them they will be very welcome. The classes will be in a friendly relaxed atmosphere where everybody will be made very welcome.
The classes are 45 minutes in duration and will be held every Monday from 11am-11:45 at the Village Hall.

Pop In Place News July  2023

Thanks you to all who supported our recent Community Production The Lion King.

When you put on a community show there are so many people involved, in so many different ways, of course there is the wonderful all age cast that worked so hard on this production. We certainly have some new rising stars in our midst.
Thank you to Lucy Cruickshank for painting the backdrop, to Barbara Crowe and Amy Belcher for doing the face painting to Laura Maunder for making costumes and to Jon Maunder for the great photographs to Paul Bennett for filming and to Rod Osmond for editing and producing the DVD.
Thank you to everyone who donated prizes for our raffle.
Thank you if you came along to any of the three different showings and made up part of the audiences.
Also thank you to the show team who have helped out with all the back stage, child supervision, refreshments and the many toilet trips. Finally a big thank you to Ruth Hughes for all her input with choreography, to Katie Long on the sound and lighting,  and to Joanna  Syrett on the prompt.

A truly fantastic community effort well done, great job everyone.

The profits from tickets and the raffle sales will be donated to the Village Hall for essential work.

All the exercises will be to music to promote mental health and well-being and where possible, movements can be adapted so that people with movement limitations can still join in.

The cost is £4 per class payable on arrival at the hall

Enquiries about the classes can be emailed to me at lucy.cruickshank7@hotmail.co.uk or telephone enquiries can be made via Lyn Simmonds on 01929 471528

Alison Bennett 60th Birthday Appeal for Weldmar Hospicecare

On the 24th of February I will be 60, I am so grateful to reach this mile stone as many of my dearest friends didn’t make it.

During my lifetime I have tried my best whenever possible to make a difference, to help wherever I can to make our community better.
To be aware and address people’s needs, to get people together and give opportunities for song, dance and laughter.

As we try to recover from a global pandemic and are gripped by a cost of living crisis it is the local charities that suffer most as they have a much smaller area of supporters.

This is why I want to make a collection for the Weldmar Hospicecare in celebration of my being 60.

If you feel you would like to support the appeal please make cheques payable to Weldmar Hospicecare or put some cash into an envelope clearly marked Weldmar Donation and post to 3 Rye Hill Close Bere Regis.

Your gift is more than just a donation. It allows Weldmar Hospice among many other  things to:

Provide the very best care to ensure patients are as comfortable and pain free as possible
Create special memories with patients and their loved ones
Add life to patients’ last days
